About This Place

KC Café, nestled on the second floor of the iconic Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, offers visitors a convenient and welcoming spot to recharge amidst their cultural adventures. This charming café shines not just for its prime location but also for its spectacular views of the Potomac River, visible through large windows that flood the space with natural light and create a relaxing atmosphere away from the city’s bustle.

The café's menu features an enticing selection of comforting classics and vibrant offerings designed to satisfy a range of tastes. Food lovers will appreciate the hearty roast chicken paired with broccoli and garlic bread, a dish that evokes the warmth and simplicity of a well-cooked home meal. The salad bar stands out as a top recommendation—generous and fresh, it provides a wholesome option that’s both flavorful and nourishing. For those with a sweet tooth, the lemon meringue pie and the cinnamon roll offer delightful, indulgent treats that perfectly round out your meal.

Beverage options cover all the essentials for coffee aficionados and tea lovers alike. From the robust espresso to the smooth and creamy café latte, including appealing flourishes like the KC Café caramel and chai tea latte, each drink is crafted to complement the café’s food offerings. The café mochas and hot chocolates bring a rich, velvety comfort that’s especially inviting after a day exploring the nearby sites. While some patrons have noted that drink prices trend toward the higher side, reflective of the Kennedy Center setting and spectacular surroundings, many agree it’s a fair exchange for the ambiance and quality provided.

Customers describe KC Café as a spacious, clean, and family-friendly environment with a cafeteria-style service that offers plenty of seating and easy access for groups. The friendly staff enhance the experience, making it a pleasant pit stop whether you’re attending a performance or simply visiting to soak up the views. True to its location, the café’s pricing leans a bit higher than your average eatery in DC, but still remains reasonable compared to other options at the Center, offering good value especially with generous portions like their smashburgers and salads.

While some suggest improvements in décor to move beyond a cafeteria feel, the café’s charm lies in its relaxed, unpretentious vibe and the unbeatable riverside panorama. The KC Café is often quieter on non-performance days, but during shows and events, it becomes a vibrant hub for theater-goers and tourists alike. From May through October, patrons also rave about the complementary outdoor café at the Reach for lighter fare in a stunning al fresco setting, but KC Café distinctly holds its own throughout the year for fresh, tasty meals with an alluring view.

For anyone visiting the Kennedy Center, KC Café is more than just a place to eat—it’s a memorable part of the experience, offering familiar flavors, a welcoming environment, and those priceless vistas that make every bite and sip feel just a bit more special.

The prices are typical for DC ($12 for a cheeseburger, $5 fries), about what you would pay at a food truck. The drinks ($12 for a can of beer or wine, or $18 for the premium drink wall) are more than you would pay at the store, but aren't bad for a restaurant. And most importantly, the view cannot be beat.

OK. Very convenient for Kennedy Center. Good for kids. Expensive but not insane. Cafeteria style serve yourself. Lots of options. Easy seating.

Yes, it IS a bit pricey - but considering it is at Kennedy Center, with GREAT views, the prices are OK. Much less expensive than the fancy restaurant next door. The best deal is the (large) salad! Generally closed if it is a day with no performances - Actually, From May to October, the best place for light eats at Kennedy Center is the outdoor cafe at the Reach.

The KC cafe is on the second floor of the kennedy center. It provides variety of food to visitors. The space is big, clean and have a great view of the potomac river from the large side window. The pre made sandwiches, salads and wraps are fresh. The fresh cooked meals taste okay but a little pricy. The staffs are very friendly.

The smashburgers are tasty and excellent value for D.C. The drinks are overpriced but it’s all for a good cause. They could improve the decor which very much feels like a cafeteria.
